Properties:
It is bitter and pungent in
flavour, warm in nature, acting on the liver and spleen
channels. Being pungent and bitter for dispersion and
purgation, it acts strongly
on the blood division to promote blood circulation and can
remove stasis in the blood to subside mass in the abdomen.
When it acts on the Qi system, it can remove food
stagnation. It is used to treat amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea
due to stasis in the blood division, abdominal mass.
Distending pain due to indigestion, and other syndromes.
Effects:
Relieving blood and Qi stasis, promoting digestion and
relieving pain.
Indications:
1. For treatment of amenorrhea due to
stagnation of Qi and blood or abdominal mass, it is
usually used in combination with Rhizoma Ligustici
Chuanxiong, Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, Rhizoma
Sparganii, Squama Manitis, Radix Salivae Miltiorrhizae,
and other herbs having the effect of removing blood stasis
and restoring menstruation and subsiding abdominal mass.
2. For treatment of indigestion,
stagnation of Qi and abdominal distention, it is
frequently used together with Pericarpium Citri
Reticulatae Viride, Semen Arecae, Frutus Hordei Germinatus,
Semen Raphani, and other herbs having the effects of
promoting digestion and removing stagnation of Qi.
Dosage and Administration:
3-10g.
Precautions:
Contraindicated
in pregnancy.
