seu Radix Notopterygii
Properties:
Pungent and bitter in flavour, warm in nature, it acts on
urinary bladder, liver and kidney channels. It has
stronger action of relieving pain caused by
wind-cold-dampness and rheumatic pain of shoulder and
back.
Effects:
Inducing diaphoresis,
dispersing cold, expelling wind, removing dampness and
relieving pain.
Indications:
1. For aversion to cold, fever,
headache, adiaphoresis and arthralgia due to exopathogenic
wind-cold-dampness, the herb is often used in combination
with ledebouriella root (Radix Ledebouriellae), chuanxiong
rhizome (Rhizoma Ligustici chuanxiong), atractylodes
rhizome (Rhizoma Atractylodis), etc. To expell wind,
disperse cold and relieve pain, as in Notopterygium
Decoction of Nine Ingredients (Jiu Wei Qiang Huo Tang)
2. For arthralgia due to
wind-cold-dampness, pain in limbs and joints, especially
pain in upper part of the body, the herb is often used
together with ledebouriella root and turmeria (Rhizoma
Curcumae longae).
Dosage and Administration: 3-10g.
Precautions:
The heavy flavour of the herb may induce vomiting, so
overdosage is limited.
