Properties:
Pungent in flavour, warm in nature, it is tropistic to the
kidney and spleen channels. Being pungent and warm in
property, it can strengthen Yang to dispell cold,
especially can warm the middle-jiao, the stomach and
spleen to reduce the secretion of saliva, serving to treat
excessive salivation due to deficiency-cold of the
mild-jiao and epigastric pain in the type of excess-cold.
It can also act on the kidney
channel to warm the kidney, strengthen Yang and
astringe the lower-jiao, serving to treat debility
due to kidney-deficiency and diarrhea in the deficiency
type of both spleen and kidney.
Effects:
Tonifying the kidney, keeping vital essence, warming the
spleen and arresting diarrhea.
Indications:
1. For
insufficiency of kidney-yang, debility due to
kidney-deficiency spermatorrhea and spontaneous seminal
secretion, frequent micturation, it is often used with
tonics with warm nature and astringents, such as Rhizoma
Dioscorea, Radix Linderae, Fructus Psoraleae, Semen
Cuscutae, etc.
2. For
deficiency-coldness of the middle-jiao, abdominal pain and
diarrhea, it is often used with Rhizoma Atractylodis
Macrocephalae, Rhizoma Zingiberis, Radix Glycyrrhizae,
Fructus amomi to warm the spleen and stop diarrhea; For
treatment to hypofunction of the spleen, failure in
keeping body fluid due to deficiency of Qi, excessive
salivation with spontaneous discharge, it is often used
with herbs for replenishing Qi and invigorating the spleen,
such as Radix Astragali seu hedysari, Rhizoma
Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae,
etc.
