Properties:
Sweet
and salty in flavour, warm in nature, it is tropistic to
the heart, lung and kidney channels. Being sweet, salty,
warm and moist in nature and mild in action, it functions
in strengthening Yang, reinforcing essence and Qi and
nourishing blood, used as an excellent tonic. It, combined
with other herbs, serves to treat syndromes of
insufficiency of Yin, Yang, Qi and blood. But owing to its
mildness, the therapeutic effect will show up after a long
period of administration.
Effects: Strengthening
Yang, supplementing vital essence and Qi and nourishing
blood.
Indications:
1. For
insufficiency of the liver and kidney, consumption of
essence and blood, impotence, infertility due to cold
sperm or deficiency-clod of the Chong and Ren Meridians,
and female infertility because of uterine coldness, it is
often used together with Yang-tonifying and
essence-supplementing herbs, such as Radix Genseng, Cornu
Cervi Pantotrichum, Herba Fpimedii, Radix Rehmanniae
Praeparata, Fructus Corni, etc.
2. For deficiency
of both the lung and kidney, failure of the kidney in
holding breath, chronic cough and asthma of deficiency
type, it can be used with herbs for tonifying the lung and
kidney, helping in halation of breath and relieving
asthma, such as Radix Genseng, Cecko, Semen Juglandis,
Fructus Psoraleae, etc.
3. For Qi-deficiency
or deficiency of both Qi and blood, poor appetite,
emaciation, lassitude, shallow complexion, dizzness,
tinnitus, insomnia and dreaminess, it is often used with
Qi-and blood-tonifying herbs such as Radix Angelicae
Sinensis, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, Rhizoma
Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata,
etc.
Dosage and
Administration:
2-4g, ground
into powder for oral administration, or used in bolus or
compound powder.

Directions:
