                      Properties:           
                      The drug is pungent and bitter in flavour, warm in nature,         
                      and acts on the spleen, stomach and large intestine         
                      channels. Pungent and warm for dispersing, aromatic for         
                      enlivening the spleen, it is good at promoting circulation         
                      of Qi in the spleen, stomach and large intestine to remove         
                      stagnated food and alleviate pain. The herb is often used         
                      to treat Qi stagnation, gastro-intestinal distention, food         
                      retention, diarrhea, dysentery and abdominal pain.

                      food retention and strengthening the spleen.

                      1. The herb is         
                      often used in combination with tangerine peel, magnolia         
                      bark, amomum fruit and other herbs for promoting Qi         
                      circulation and normalizing function of the stomach, to         
                      treat Qi stagnation in the spleen and stomach, abdominal         
                      distention, anorexia and vomiting; with dangshen, white         
                      atractylodes rhizome, amomum fruit and other herbs for         
                      supplementing distention, to treat abdominal distention         
                      due to Qi deficiency, which is aggravated in the afternoon         
                      or after work; and with immuture citron fruit , germinated         
                      barley, medicated leaven and other herbs for removing         
                      stagnated food, to treat food retention, anorexia, Qi         
                      stagnation and abdominal distention.             
                      2. The herb is         
                      often used in combination with coptis root for clearing         
                      heat and dampness, promoting Qi circulation and         
                      alleviating pain, such as Xianglian Pill, to treat         
                      dysentery due to damp-heat, abdominal pain, diarrhea,         
                      tenesmus and stagnation of Qi in the large intestine; and         
                      with green tangerine orange peel, areca seed and other         
                      herbs for removing stagnated food, to treat food         
                      retention, diarrhea, dysentery, abdominal pain and       
                      tenesmus.            
                      Dosage and          
                      Administration:  3--10g. The      
                      herb is used unprepared for promting Qi circulation and      
                      used stewed for arresting diarrhea.
