                      Properties:       
                      Pungent and bitter in flavour, warm in nature, it has       
                      affinity to the heart and stomach channels. Being pungent,       
                      volatile and warm in nature, it can invigorate channels;       
                      as a bitter agent, it can eliminate dampness; and as an       
                      aromatic, it also has strong irritability on the sense       
                      organs. It functions in removing phlegm to induce       
                      resuscitation, eliminating dampness, regulating the       
                      stomach and appetising, serving to treat coma due to       
                      invasion of phlegm-dampness to the heart, and oppressive       
                      chest and anorexia resulting from retention of dampness in       
                      the middle-jiao.       
                      Effects:       
                      Removing phlegm to induce resuscitation, eliminating       
                      dampness and regulating function of the stomach.       
                      Indications:      
                              
                              
                               
                      1. For damp-phlegm         
                      syndrome caused by exopathogens. obstruction of the upper         
                      orifices or sense organs of the head by phlegm-dampness         
                      manifeted by fever, choking sensation in the chest, loss         
                      of consciousness, mental confusion and delirium, it is         
                      often used with herbs for clearing away heat and dampness,         
                      regulating the circulation of Qi and resolving phlegm,         
                      such as Radix Curcumae, Succus Bambosae, Lophatherum,         
                      Fructus Gardeniae, etc. , as in Decoction of Grassleaved         
                      Sweetflag Rhizome and Curcuma Root (Changpr Yujin Tang).         
                      2. For retention         
                      of dampness in the middle-jiao, incoordination betweem the         
                      spleen and the stomach, vomiting, gastric distention,         
                      chest congestion and greasy fur, it can be used wit herbs         
                      for eliminating dampness to invigorate function of the         
                      spleen, regulating Qi-circulation and function of the         
                      stomach, such as Herba Agastachis, Herba Eupatorii,         
                      Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Rhizoma Pinelliae, etc, ;         
                      for dysentery due to noxious heat, it is used with herbs         
                      for clearing away heat and toxins and treating dysentery,         
                      such as Rhizoma Coptidis, Fructus Nelumbinis, Folium     
                      Nelumbinis, etc. , as in Powder for Relieving Lockjaw (Kaijin         
                      San).         
                      In addition, it          
                      also can be used with cardio-tonics and tranquilizers     
                      to treat insomnia and amnesia due to insufficiency of    
                      heart-qi.
